Mankato Basement Overhaul
Challenge
Standing in over an inch of water while watching water literally pour out of the walls, System Design Specialist had his work cut out for him with this Mankato home. Another victim of the “clay bowl effect” – the term for when water builds up around the home and is unable to escape, causing hydrostatic pressure – this previously finished basement had water seeping into it through both the floors and walls. On top of that, the moisture had caused a major mold and mildew problem that was growing on the sheet rock and wood within the space.
Solution
When finished basements experience moisture problems like this, the first step is to remove the organic material like sheet rock and wood in order to get rid of any mold and mildew that has built up. Once that was done, the Production Team worked to install a full perimeter waterproofing system using our patented WaterGuard system as well as our CleanSpace wall moisture barrier. The crew worked to direct any collected water to two sump pumps (TripleSafe and SuperSump pumps). Finally, the crew installed a 60-foot buried discharge line to remove all of the water collected by the sump pumps away from the home and to reduce the overall impact of the clay bowl effect.
Now that this Mankato home is properly waterproofed and backed by our lifetime transferable warranty, the homeowner can safely finish his basement and rest easy knowing that he and his family can live happily and safely in the space.
